RE: SPONSORSHIP FOR MAJOR UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE LEARNING AND MAINTENANCE PROJECT

We are writing to seek your financial assistance for the Ridna Mova Publishers in Australia project

which is providing, , free of charge, Ukrainian-English and English-Ukrainian dictionaries and readers to schools of the russified regions of Ukraine.

These regions need support not only in language learning and maintenance, but also in understanding the values of a democratic society. The text book/readers and dictionaries being distributed, were written especially for Ukrainian schools by the late Maria Dejko.to educate children in these values.

The project has received wide support from many quarters including the Ukrainian World Congress, Ukrainian Ministery of Education and Sciences, World Forum of Ukrainians, as well as many Ukrainian community organizations in the countries of the Diaspora.

To date 5,406 dictionaries and readers have been donated to Ukraine and Ukrainians in the Russian Federation. The overall objective is challenging as in Ukraine alone there are over 22 000 schools.

Ridna Mova Publishers are continuing their work on updating and improving the dictionaries and textbooks. Four of the texts are now ready for print.

Funds are desparately needed, not only for printing, but also for distribution and postage.

Our appeal goes out to Ukrainian organizations to assist this vitally important project
